The Spruce Pine area is full of car enthusiasts looking to connect with other drivers who have similar interests and hobbies. Car shows are a great way for car lovers to connect and socialize with others who share their love of all things automotive while exploring a variety of cars of all makes, models, and eras. With the second half of the year approaching, we’re closing out the last several months of summer and moving into the cooler months of autumn, which is the perfect time to check out a car show.
Date: Aug. 5, 2023, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Location: 1134 E. Caswell St., Wadesboro, North Carolina. This car show is well worth the nearly three-hour drive from Spruce Pine to Wadesboro. Harvest Ministries Outreach Center is organizing its second event to raise money for school supplies for local teachers and students. Car owners pay $25 to enter the competition, but the event is completely free for spectators. A live band and DJ will be at the car show, and food and drinks will be for sale on-site. Not only will cars be featured in the show, but you’ll also find trucks, bikes, ATVs, UTVs, and tractors. Awards will be given out to cars for categories such as Best Paint Job, Best Engine, Best in Show, Best Interior, and People’s Choice. Participating in this event is sure to be a lot of fun, and it’s also a great way to show support for local teachers and students as the new school year approaches.
Date: Aug. 19, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. (rain date Aug. 26).
Location: 2800 Campus Ridge Road, Matthews, North Carolina. This is the inaugural year of the Cars and Conversation car show at the Central Piedmont Levine Campus. This event is not just a car show but also a fundraiser, with a portion of all proceeds going to support Central Piedmont SkillsUSA Automotive Clubs. With $20, you will gain entry into the car show competition, while $5 is the general admission price for spectators. The show will feature all makes and models of cars, trucks, SUVs, Jeeps, and bikes. Spectators will enjoy food trucks, vendors, a live DJ, facility tours, giveaways, and door prizes. Award categories include Best Exotic, Best Vintage/Classic, Best Budget Build, and Best EV. As an inaugural event, car enthusiasts need to step up and show support for what looks to be a great addition to the North Carolina car show lineup.
Date: Sept. 9, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain date Sept. 16).
Location: 900 W. Vandalia Road, Greensboro, North Carolina. Take a drive to the east to visit the quaint town of Greensboro for the completely complimentary Shadow of the Steeple Car Show organized by Shannon Hills Bible Chapel. This event was created purely to spark joy in the hearts of car lovers, as there’s no entry or spectator fee, and everything from the hot dogs to the snow cones is free of charge. Trophies will be awarded to the winners of a variety of categories. If you’re looking for a completely free family-friendly event, the Shadow of the Steeple Car Show shouldn’t disappoint.
Date: Sept. 16, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. (rain date Sept. 23).
Location: 220 Byers Creek Road, Mooresville, North Carolina. This is an event aimed at all NASCAR lovers, as it’s held at the NASCAR Technical Institute (NTI), and its goal is to raise money for a future NTI scholarship. Car entry is $25 while general admission is $5. This event features domestic and imported vehicles of all makes, models, and years. The event will feature a live DJ, dyno sessions, food trucks, vendors, NTI facility tours, door prizes, and giveaways. This exciting event has something for everyone, and contributing to a future NTI scholarship means you’re helping to support the car enthusiasts of tomorrow and their endeavors.
Date: Sept. 23, 2023, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Location: 336 Banner Farm Road, Mills River, North Carolina. For those looking for something a bit different, this event from the British Car Club of Western North Carolina will showcase cars and motorcycles manufactured in the British Isles and Europe that aren’t seen as often on roads in this area. This event will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the MG motor company as well as the 75th anniversary of Lotus race cars, the 75th anniversary of the TVR motor company, the 75th anniversary of the first Morris Minor, the 65th anniversary of the Bug (Frog) Eye Sprite, the 50th anniversary of the MGB/GT V-8, and the 75th anniversary of Land Rover. Car registration is $30, and general admission is free. Food and beverages will be available at both the show and the neighboring Mills River Brewing Company.
Date: Oct. 21, 2023, from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Location: South Garnett Street, Henderson, North Carolina. If you’re in the mood for a bit of nostalgia, this long-standing car show is for you. Celebrating its 21st year, the Show, Shine, Shag & Dine Car Show is open to cars made in 1994 or earlier and features antiques, classics, muscle cars, drag cars, rat rods, street rods, and trucks that will cover 10 blocks of the downtown area. Judged cars cost $25 to enter, while nonjudged cars can be added to the display for $20. General admission is free. This impressive collection of classic vehicles is a highlight of the historic Henderson area every year. Don’t miss out on this expansive and unique car show.
