The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has a long history of hard work. It’s the truck people turn to when they need to haul boats and trailers to campsites, get the job done at a dirty worksite, and transport people and gear around town. The latest version of the Silverado 1500 has some updates inside and out. It’s available in two new metallic paint colors, and the Midnight Edition now comes with the High Country trim. Also for 2024, the 6.2-liter V-8 engine gets an active exhaust that gives it a satisfying low growl when in sport mode. While the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 is a top choice for pickup truck drivers, it does have some competition in the Ford F-150. But in looking at the two trucks in a side-by-side comparison, it’s easy to see how the Silverado comes out on top.
The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 comes in many different trim levels. Each one offers more features than the last. Here’s the price range of the Silverado:
The Ford F-150 has a similar lineup, with some trims offering comparable prices while others are in a higher price range:
A new truck is a big investment and one that should be relied on for many years. Drivers can count on the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 to keep going for as long as it’s needed. It received a perfect five-star reliability rating from J.D. Power, and it’s not unusual to see Silverado trucks reach at least 200,000 miles. The Ford F-150 received a reliability score of 4.5 from J.D. Power, and while many F-150s will last well over 200,000 miles, the number is slightly lower than the Silverado.
Whether opting for the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 or the Ford F-150, there’s a choice of powertrains. The Silverado stands ahead of the F-150 when it comes to power and towing capabilities. The lineup starts with a 2.7-liter turbo four-cylinder gas engine that develops 310 horsepower and generates 430 lb-ft of torque. This engine works with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Up next is a 5.3-liter V-8 with 355 horsepower. This engine will provide 383 lb-ft of torque and a 10-speed automatic transmission. A 6.2-liter V-8 is another option. It puts out 420 horsepower, gets 460 lb-ft of torque, and also uses the 10-speed automatic transmission. The top powertrain for the Silverado is a 3.0-liter turbo six-cylinder diesel engine. It churns out 305 horsepower and develops 495 lb-ft of torque. The Ford F-150 also has a long list of engine options. It starts with a 3.3-liter V-6 with 290 horsepower. A 2.7-liter V-6 generates 325 horsepower, and then a 5.0-liter V-8 comes with 400 horsepower. There’s also a 3.5-liter V-6 available with 400 horsepower. The next engine in the F-150 lineup is specifically for the Raptor model. It’s a 3.5-liter V-6 with 450 horsepower, or another choice is the supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 with 700 horsepower. When talking pickup trucks, towing and hauling power is one of the most important factors. When equipped with the Duramax diesel engine, rear-wheel drive, and the tow package, the Silverado 1500 can tow up to 13,300 pounds. The F-150 tops out at 14,000 pounds, which is just a little higher than the Silverado.
Safety is a priority when driving a pickup truck, whether it’s being taken to the worksite or used for towing loads on road trips. The 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has a long list of standard and available safety features. Even the entry-level WT comes with a forward collision warning system with automatic braking, lane departure warning, and lane-keep assist. Bumping up to the ZR2, LTZ, or High Country brings a standard blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and a 360-degree surround-view camera system. The High Country adds to all these safety features with an adaptive cruise control system and offers GM’s Super Cruise semi-autonomous driving system. This allows the driver to take their hands off the wheel and let the Silverado take over the driving on thousands of miles of highway across the United States. The Ford F-150 also has some standard safety systems. It comes with lane departure warning, forward collision warning with automatic braking, and automatic high-beam headlights. The XLT and above add some more equipment, including a blind-spot monitor, rear automatic braking, and lane-keep assist, while the King Ranch includes adaptive cruise control.
No matter where folks are headed, when they drive the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, they’ll have lots of technology and convenience features right at their fingertips. The base WT has a 7-inch touch screen that runs a wireless version of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Custom adds 120-volt power outlets, but going with the LT or above also provides a 13.4-inch infotainment touch screen and 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster. This trim also has enhanced Google-based voice controls. A wireless charging pad is also available in the higher Silverado trims. The F-150 starts out with an 8-inch touch screen and a wired version of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The XLT runs the SYNC 4 infotainment system, and stepping up to the Lariat adds a 12-inch touch screen. Integrated navigation and an eight-speaker Bang & Olufsen stereo system will come standard if going with the King Ranch model.
